String Camp
For 40 years, we have consistently offered the best in
music instruction in an ideal geographical setting in Northern
Michigan.Wolverine provides a positive, safe and secure learning environment for students
to further develop and explore their talents. Enrollments are limited per instrument so sign up early. Call
for more information.
Staff
Camp Director
T. Dave Pugh - This
will be Mr. Pugh's 5th summer at Wolverine Camp. He has taught band and
orchestra in the Michigan public schools for 19 years. At Lakewood High
School in Lake Odessa, his bands performed in two European tours and
for two U.S. Presidents. At Byron Center Schools, Mr. Pugh started an
orchestra program in the 5th grade and after 6 years, the program
consisted of 140 students in grades 5 through 12. Currently at Concord
Academy in Petoskey, Mr. Pugh played French horn in the 126 Army Band
for 14 years and currently plays the string bass with the Great Lakes
Chamber Orchestra.
Melinda Middlemiss - Violin Instructor - Melinda
is a graduate from Byron Center High School in Grand Rapids. She has
played with the St Cecilia Orchestra, the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp
Orchestra and currently plays in the Central Michigan University
Orchestra. She studied privately with Sara VanePol and Carol Johnsons
and currently studies with Dr. Sughee Lee. Melinda teaches
privately when not perusing her major in music education and minior in
violin performance at CMU . This will be
Melinda's 5th year at Wolverine Camps.
Joshua Pugh - Cello
Instructor - Joshua is a student at Concord Academy and cellist with
the orchestra at Concord Academy, Crooked Tree Youth Orchestra and the
Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra. He has studied privately with Susan
Meyer, Corin Meyer, Tina Horrigan and recently with Carl Donakowski
from James Madison University. Joshua will be at Wolverine for his 4th year at summer camp.
John Van Patten - John
has been playing the violin for over 20 years. He has been
teaching privately in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area for 10 years and
plays professionally for many events in the area. He also serves
on the board of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra as well as plays as a
member of the group. Along with playing the violin he is also a
licensed Kindermusik educator and President of Vivace School of Music
and Arts in Harbor Springs. (Additional staff to be named later)
