Decorative Treasure Box
Decorate/embellish a box, with or without a lid, with various
papers, paint, stamps, inks, beads and a variety of other materials.
Silk Painting
Silk painting is very similar to painting with watercolors, on
watercolor paper. Instead of paint, you use silk dye and instead of
a piece of watercolor paper, you use a piece of silk.
Stained Glass Design
Make a piece of stained glass art using various pieces of colored
glass, copper foil and solder.
Clay
Working to create containers and sculpture using slab technique.
Drawing from Nature
Learn about how to create art outdoors. Practice Prospective &
Shading Techniques.
PMC (precious metal clay)
Working with PMC allows the artist to create silver jewelry without
using saws, soldering irons and chemicals involved in traditional
metal working.
Watercolors
This medium will be explored through the four basic washes, and the
lift & resist techniques. We will develop a painting using these
techniques. Beginner or advanced
Felting
We’ll be doing dry felting and wet felting and making rugs, purses,
hats or vests even jewelry!
Papermaking
Man made paper will be the medium we use to create bags, boxes,
books or molded sculptures! Come explore new possibilities through
papermaking!More Classes May Be Added.

Kathy
Phelps-Rusche
is currently
an art
teacher at
Petoskey
Middle
School and
has taught
in Petoskey
for
thirty-five
years. She
is a
graduate of
Western
Michigan
University
with a BS in
art
education.
She started
her masters
degree at
Michigan
State
University
and finished
it at
Central
Michigan
University.
Kathy
studied art
in London,
England and
has taught
professional
watercolor
workshops.
Kathy
studied
watercolors
under Nita
Engles and
Zoltan Zsabo.

Kurt
Zimmerle -
Co-Director
Kurt Zimmerle is
an artist from
northern
Michigan who
received a BA in
studio art from
Principia
College in Elsah,
Illinois. He has
worked as an
interior
designer, mural
artist, and
visual
merchandiser. He
has also worked
for the Lego
Company as a
master builder
and continues to
work with the
brick to create
3D sculpture. He
has taught
outdoor
education for
over fifteen
years and has
done long term
sub-teaching and
art tutoring.
Kurt has just
completed
another degree
as a K-12 art
educator from
Kendall College
of Art and
Design in Grand
Rapids,
Michigan. He
likes to work
with
watercolors,
acrylic, clay,
metal, pen and
ink and oils. |

Margaret Van
Wagoner - Camp
Staff
Margaret W. Van
Wagoner is
currently a
retired art
teacher from
Petoskey High
School where she
taught for
thirty-three
years. She has
also taught at
North Central
Michigan College
and Raven Hill
Discovery
Center. She
currently
teaches art
classes at
Crooked Tree
Arts Center and
also gives
private art
lessons. She has
chaired the
Crooked Tree
Arts Council
Holiday Art
Bazaar for the
past four years,
helped the
Blissfest music
organization on
art projects for
the past five
years, has been
a Petoskey Art
in the Park
committee member
and the chair of
the Kid’s Art
Tent for nine
years.
