Cross Country Camp

Open to junior high and senior high school boys and girls who are serious 
about becoming better runners.  The students enrolled in our camp will receive 
a steady diet of cross-country running each day.  This is a NON-COMPETITIVE 
camp with training and conditioning only, not a recreation camp.  Open to 7th 
thru 12th grade boys and girls - younger runners call for information.  Students 
can sign up for more than one week.  There are no refunds if a student leaves camp
early for any reason.

Summer 2009

  • Director (Session 1 July 29-23 Monday - Friday) 5days/4nights
    Stephen Eles - Head Men's and Women's Coach, Lake Superior State University.
  • Co-Director: Stu Scholl (Session 2 & 3 July 25 - July 31, Aug. 1- Aug. 7 ) 7days/6nights
    NCAA All American Cross Country Runner, former Wolverine Cross Country Camper and Assistant Director of Wolverine Cross Country Camp for 29 years
  • Co- Director: Drew Ludtke (Session 2 & 3 July 25 - July 31, Aug. 1- Aug. 7 ) University of St. Francis (Joliet, Ill) Woman's Cross Country Coach. Former Wolverine Camper and Counselor.

Guest Coach and Speakers:

  • Kermit Ambrose - Former Director of Wolverine Cross Country Camp.
  • Dave Hodgkinson -  (2nd & 3rd session)- Former Head Cross Country Coach - Forrest Hills Central
  • Paul McMullen - Eight time NCAA All-American, 1996 Olympian Runner
Counselors: 
  • Former campers who are now college runners and coaches.
Special Features:

All runners are video taped for personal observation and coaching purposes. 
Motivational tapes, movies and talks round out an excellent week of training. 

Special Clothing

2 pairs training shoes, sweat shirt, sweat pants and rain gear.  (no spikes - please!) 

Tentative Program

This camp focuses on fundamentals of cross country running and conditioning.  To 
Obtain maximum  benefit, students should have built up a sound distance base as 
they will be running between 30-50 miles during the week depending on their 
fitness level.  Again, we are a NONCOMPETITIVE CAMP.

2:00-4:00 Registration : Peterson Lodge 
4:00-10:00 Orientation, buffet supper, getting acquainted, introduction to camp running paths, light workout, films, lectures, videos and snack time 
10:30 Lights Out!
  Typical Day  Sessions 1,2,3
7:00 Rise and get ready for breakfast 
7:15 Breakfast
8:30 First Aid
9:00 Start workouts. 1.5 to 2 miles of slow easy jogging on the flat ground. 15 minutes of calisthenics and build-ups, 
followed by the morning workout i.e.: 4-8 mile distance run. 
12:00 Lunch
1:30 First Aid
2:00 Warm-up, calisthenics, build-ups and afternoon workout i.e.: 3-5 mile hill workout
5:00 Dinner
7:30 Films, tape recordings and motivational talks & guest speakers
9:00 Snack Time
10:00 Head for dorms
10:30 Lights Out!!
  Friday or Saturday Morning
9:00-11:00 Morning workout - Parents welcome to observe, please bring folding chairs
11:00 Check Out

  What spare time you might have may be used for, basketball, ultimate frisbee, horse-shoes, volley ball, soccer, tubing, etc. Weight training (not weight lifting) will be part of the program.  Light weights with fast action. Runs to Burt Lake of Silver Lake for swimming will be part of some afternoon workouts. Bring your swim suits.  If you have new running shoes, bring some of your old shoes with you so that you might break in the new shoes gradually.  Also, use the old shoes if the weather does not cooperate.  Rain gear is advisable. Bring a spiral notebook with you.  You will keep a log of your workouts and lectures. 

Session Dates - 2010

1st Session  July 19th - July 23rd  (5 days) $250 per week 
2nd Session  July 25th - Jul  31st  (7 days) $375 per week 
3rd Session  Aug 1st - Aug 87th  (7 days) $375 per week

 Tuition includes a T-shirt, evening snacks, 4X6 picture, and a pizza party. 

A registration fee of $125 is required for each session.
