Wolverine Outdoor Education Center
is located in the Sturgeon river valley two miles north of Wolverine, Michigan.
Rolling hills, fields, ponds, streams, and cedar swamps offer a wide variety
of wildlife habitats for study and exploration. The 360 acre property is
adjacent to the pigeon river and hardwood state forests. |
Our Philosophy: To foster a better understanding and appreciation
of ourselves, our neighbors, and our natural environment. We believe that
living and working together with the outdoors as our classroom is an effective
way to achieve this goal.
Our Staff: Our staff are carefully selected based on
knowledge, experience and moral integrity. They are professionals
committed to helping young people through positive learning
experiences. Many are retirees with years of experience.
Our Program: We offer a wide variety of activity choices
which the school may select from. We feel that any school subject can be
enhanced by the outdoor classes that we offer. Students are taught in small
groups of twelve to fourteen where the emphasis is on learning by doing.
Students are given responsibilities and challenges that promote high self
esteem, respect, and cooperation. Teachers and parent chaperons take an
active role in supervision and participation in activities.
Our Facilities: We can
accommodate groups up to 140. Facilities include an 1880's homestead,
cabin, barn (the farm), gymnasium (the roof), sugar shed (maple syrup),
Indian Village complete with teepee, long house & INIPI, Turn of
the century two room schoolhouse, high and low ropes course. Delicious
meals are served cafeteria style in our main lodge. |
