Theatre Arts Camp Wolverine Camps is proud to present the Wolverine Theatre Arts Camp! Set in an ideal geographical location in Northern Michigan, this unique camp will offer young actors a wide variety of theatre activities, information and performance opportunities unlike any summer theatre camp offered in Michigan.

Camp Director
William Bruce, is in his 18th year of teaching; his third year at Jackson High School and the Middle School at Parkside in Jackson, Mi, teaching vocal music and directing musical theatre productions. His students produce a full length musical each year. Bill holds a degrees from Central Michigan University and The University of Michigan. He received specialized training in theatre and musical theatre arts through Arizona State University and private instructors from The Goodman School. A former vocalist for the United States Air Force Band, his vocal training has been through Daniel Ferro, Daune Mahy and Jerry Doan. Bill has performed in or directed more than 70 shows since 1971. Rachel Bruce is a graduate of Arizona State University in musical theatre performance and music therapy. An accomplished actress, Rachel was accepted into the prestigious New York University Tisch School of the Arts as a Dramatic Arts major at the age of 17 before opting to pursue her training at Arizona State. Rachel has already performed leading roles in over 30 dramas, musicals and operas at the high school, community and collegiate level, including Ophelia in "Hamlet," Maria in "West Side Story," Julie in "Carousel" and the title role of Ondine. She has been trained in Stanislavski method acting and Alexander technique for stage movement.
Course Descriptions
MOVEMENT - Students will actively engage in movement for the stage. Fluidity,
grace and deportment will be emphasized and explored on a character development basis.
STANISLAVSKI - Students will learn methodology necessary for character portrayal
via; motivation, character sketches, emotional recall and transfer, etc.
MONOLOGUE PREPARATION - Students will choose at least one monologue to develop
for an ausition piece and prepare it by applying Stanislavski technique.
MAKEUP - Students will learn the fundamentals of stage makeup, including
application of bases, facial/nose putty, scarwax, latex, etc.
SET CONSTRUCTION - Students will actively construct sets for scene production
untilizing a variety of media (wood, muslin, styrofoam, etc.) and learn principles
of set design and construction.
IMPROVISATION - Students will utilize "gibberish" to improvise advertising
for a given product. They will improvise a song/melody to Yellow Pages advertising
and improvise dramatic comic dialogue (utilizing gibberish) to a given set of
circumstances.
SCENIC REHEARSALS - Students will perform scenes from selected dramas comedies
and/or musicals. Scenes will be determined by number and gender of students enrolled.
ALL students will have a role on stage.
Additional counseling staff will be acquired as the number of campers
is determined

STUDENTS NEED TO BRING THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL ITEMS TO THE THEATRE ARTS CAMP
- CD or cassette tape with background music
for a skit or monologue you may perform
- Notebook / pencils
- 1-2 little children's storybooks of your
choice for Storybook or Puppet Theatre
- A mismatched outfit or a clown costume if you plan on taking the Clowning Session
